Cool Roofing Success Stories

Playing on the beach, running in and out of the surf, feeling the cool water splash over you feet is fun and refreshing on a hot summer's day.  But sometimes getting there is not half the fun.

Walking down to the beach can be a real tap dance.  That's because the asphalt parking lot, the sidewalks and even the sand can blister bare feet.  On a hot sunny day, the sand on a beach can reach temperatures over 125° F.  Black asphalt can get over 130° F.  The simple solution is to wear sandals.

But what if that black surface is on your roof?  Most people don't walk on their roofs very often, so they don't know how hot they get or the problems that extreme heat can cause.  A roof surface can easily reach 150° F or more on a hot sunny day.  And sandals are not the simple fix here.

A hot roof can cause a host of problems for the owner and occupants.  Air conditioners must work harder and longer and use more energy.  Roofs don't last as long when exposed to extreme heat.  And if that hot roof is exposed to a sudden temperature drop (say a late afternoon rain shower) the thermal shock can be disastrous to a roofs integrity.

So what's the simple solution for a hot roof?  It's the cool roof technology of the Duro-Last Cool Zone Roofing System.  Just as sandals will protect your feet, the Cool Zone system will protect your building.

Infrared photos taken of the Sea Ranch Motel at Carolina Beach, North Carolina show the impacts of a Cool Zone roof.

On an August day when the air temperature was 94° F, the dark asphalt shingles of surrounding roofs were over 145° F.  Yet the Cool Zone roof was only 98° F.

Does this make an impact that the owner sees?  You bet!  After a hot day in the sun, his patrons can keep cool in their rooms without costing him a fortune in air conditioning bills.  And in a location faced with high winds, high heat, high humidity and tropical storms, he faces low risk of roof failure.

So stay cool and relax under the protection of the Duro-Last Cool Zone roofing system.  And don't forget the sunscreen.
